Become a parish councillor and help your community

wE NEED YOU! jOIN THE sILSOE pARISHcoUNCIL AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO YOUR COMMUNITY

Silsoe Parish Council is looking for 2 new Councillors to join us.

Silsoe Parish Councillors carry out their duties voluntarily and play a vital role in representing the interests of the communities they serve in Silsoe.

We are currently looking for new volunteer councillors, one to look after the Parish Council finances and the other to look after planning issues that affect the village.

As well as attending a meeting once per month, it is expected the roles will involve 1-2 hours work a week maximum.

FINANCE

This role involves preparing and managing the annual Parish Council budget. Looking after the accounts on an ongoing basis and preparing a short report for the monthly meeting. This would suit someone with an accountancy background. To give an idea of the work involved, our income is a twice a year Precept out of Council Tax and on average there are 5 invoices per month.

PLANNING

Silsoe Parish Council has a responsibility to review all planning applications affecting the village, and these are discussed every month to review all proposals notified by Central Bedfordshire Council.

It is important to note, our role is not to sit in judgement and we do not have the right of refusal. All applications are reviewed against our adopted Neighbourhood Plan, which seeks to safeguard the village from inappropriate development.

This is a very interesting role and would suit someone from a planning/construction/housing background.

If you are interested in either role please contact the Parish Clerk, Tammy Medley at clerk@silsoeparishcouncil.org or for a chat call 07955521174
