Key Silsoe Facilites

Silsoe is a thriving community with many services and amenities that residents can use, from a range of services including our own Post Office to schools and a leisure centre. Silsoe Leisure Centre

The Centre is owned and operated by the Parish for the Residents. 

This modern facility is found on Chestnut Avenue in Silsoe. The Fitness Room, is equipped with Technogym equipment and mywellnesscloud technology.

Other facilities include a Dance Studio, with a range of fitness classes, a 2 court Sports Hall for Badminton and Short Tennis sessions and a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) which is available for hire.
It is additionally used by Silsoe Cricket Club, Silsoe Carpet Bowls. Clophill & District Football Club and Netball teams

Pre-School

Situated in the grounds of the new state of the art Silsoe VC Lower School, we offer children aged 2 ½ to 5 years the very best start to their early years education.

We have created a calm, nurturing environment where children can engage in purposeful play. 

Children are supported physically and emotionally by caring and experienced practitioners who encourage every child to make progress, enjoy learning and become independent and confident learners.

Silsoe V.C. Lower School

Our vision is to be an excellent, God-centred, values-based, community-focused school where everyone is welcomed, encouraged and included.

The cornerstone of all of our work is our ‘Christian Values’ based education, which is embraced by the whole school community.

These values are our guiding principles. They help us to work together to create a successful and happy school. They encourage every child to develop into a caring, responsible, hardworking and positive person capable of fulfilling their God-given potential.

Silsoe Horticultural Centre

A Day Centre for people with learning disabilites. Customers get the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of horticultural activities which includes all aspects of the planting, growing and harvesting of a range of produce. They also are involved in the preparation and production of a range of preserves such as chutneys and jams made from our own produce.

The produce is sold in the local area as well as at our on-site Sunflower tea room. The tea room operates on a Thursday and is open to the public.

Silsoe Offers Support 

Police-checked volunteers helping those who need assistance in Silsoe: giving lifts to hospitals, GP’s surgeries, shopping and more. We only ask for a contribution towards transport costs. Call  07747 827642 any time from 9am  to 7pm, 7 days a week.


SOS Tea Rooms – runs on the first Tuesday of every month at the Village Hall  2pm -4pm. All welcome for tea/coffee and home-made cake.

Church 

Our Church is a vibrant, growing community and we hope that you will find much to interest you in the variety of services, as well as the many social and community events organised by the Friends of Silsoe Church or by the Parochial Church Council.

Millennium Green

The Millennium Green is a 4.94-hectare amenity space located off the High Street.

Cranfield University landscape engineering students drew up designs in collaboration with residents of the village and won a grant of over £45,000 to form the Green, a tranquil centrepiece for the village

Puddleducks Nursery Wrest Park

Located in the grounds of the English Heritage site of Wrest Park, Puddleducks Nursery provides more than just day care for babies to preschool age. it offers a full pre-school curriculum .

Silsoe Village Hall

Silsoe Village Hall is situated in School House Mews adjacent to the junction of Ampthill Road and High Street.

It is available for hire by private organisations, individuals and business users.

Community Transport Service

Assisting the community travel around local shops, health services, visit loved ones, or a day out.

All vehicles are accessible for those with impaired mobility, staff are friendly, fully trained, DBS checked & MiDAS assessed.

Wrest Park

Grade One listed English Heritage Property located within Silsoe.

Over 90 acres to explore including landscaped gardens, woodland walks, historic buildings and regular events. Also has a children’s play area and cafe.

Post Office

A limited service Post Office is open in the Village Hall – Tuesdays and Thursdays 12.30-2.30pm.

Waterslade Allotments

Silsoe Village Allotments: 50 Allotments of various sizes. Wonderful sandy loam soil. Easy vehicle access. Convenient water taps. Garden Shop on site. Contact Mike Ginger on silsoegardeners@hotmail.co.uk

Shops and Services

Star and Garter Pub

A 17th Century country pub located on the High Street and run by Wendy Alford. The Star and Garter offers a wide range of drinks and a friendly atmosphere.

Aspects Hair Design

On Newbury Lane, Aspects Hair Design is open 9am to 18.00 hours Tuesdays to Saturdays. Specialising in L’Oreal Professionnel products, staff are trained in advanced colour techniques.

Newbury Farm Plants

A small family run nursery on the outskirts of Silsoe. Catering for both wholesale and retail customers and specialising in growing hardy herbaceous perennials, they also stock a wide range of hardy ornamentals.

Village Homes

Village Homes Estate Agency is situated on Newbury Lane and is open from  0900hours to 1730 Monday to Friday.

Taymer Nursing Home

Long and short term residential care for up to 33 residents. Residents benefit from modern amenities and 24hr professional medical care with a friendly home-from-home atmosphere.

Co-op Supermarket

Co-op supermarket is situated on the southern end of the village and has an Amazon Counter, Costa bar, with National and Health Lottery .

Silsoe Dental Clinic

Silsoe Dental Clinic is now open Mon – Fri. Principle Dentist Dr Salaman Iqbal is now accepting new patients.

Route 66 Barbers

The barbers can be found on the HIgh Street, no appointment necessary. 

Youngs Fish & Chips

Youngs are delighted to offer fish & chips cooked in state-of-the-art fryers with innovative filters for a healthier meal. Gluten-Free Wednesdays, barista coffee, specialist teas and milkshakes. Seating area for dining in.

Where Silsoe cannot provide, residents are advised to travel to local villages and towns, such as:

– Clophill: post office and pub/restaurants
– Barton-le-Clay: a range of services, including doctor’s, dentists, Co-op, bakers, cash points, post office and restaurants
– Maulden: small supermarket, pub/restaurants, printers
– Flitton: pub/restaurants
– Greenfield: pubs

The largest amenities and services however can be found at Flitwick, Ampthill, Bedford and Milton Keynes.

This community group runs events throughout the year, including pancake races, Family Fun Day and Christmas Lights Switch On.

Silsoe Stride

Annual 5k, 10k races for adults and children, run through the countryside around Wrest Park every June.
