SPC response to Central Beds Council on Clophill roundabout diversion

we are NOT in support of all the mitigation measures that you have decided upon, particularly the use of Newbury Lane as a diversion.

As a Parish Council, we fully represent and support the residents of Silsoe. To that end we have engaged in good faith with you for over 18 months.

We wish to strongly make it clear that, contrary to statements made within your communications, we are NOT in support of all the mitigation measures that you have decided upon, particularly the use of Newbury Lane as a diversion. It may not be officially listed as such but it is clear to all that the route will be heavily used. Residents quite rightly are very concerned about the inevitable increase in traffic and the associated safety issues along this route. Some of those who live at the High Street end have little or no off street parking so cannot abide by the TTRO and the suggestion that they park in side roads is not viable. If those residents choose to resist the intended measures that is a matter for them but we are not at all surprised by their hostility.

As has been repeatedly pointed out, we feel completely let down and disappointed that our considerable efforts to achieve sensible mitigation for Silsoe have come to nothing. All we as a Council can do therefore is try to provide our residents with as much information as possible to help them make informed decisions. Of particular concern is the certain use of Church Rd and surrounding lanes as an alternative to the inevitable village congestion. We have suggested solutions for this but these, along with others, have been rejected.
